Following the events of The Runner, Ace's actions send the lives of thousands into turmoil. To make matters worse, damage from the encroaching flood has caused sensitive electronic equipment to malfunction, which has unforeseen consequences for the young men and women of the silo.

Book 3, The Watcher, is now available for kindle.

As noted, I finished reading Wool recently. It was...good, I suppose, though something was missing. Having heard good things, I had a look on my Kindle for Runner. I couldn't find it, so I went for this.

Oh dear indeed. Well, the concept is good, and has a lot of intriguing potential. I also have to honestly give it props for unintentionally hilarious writing. A gay character named Ace Ender and a lot of probably unintended homoerotic descriptions had me howling with laughter. However, there's a certain heart and earnestness to it that are commendable, and I agree with reviewers who mentioned that it was something missing from the original Wool.

On the down side...well...I try not to say this, but it could have used editing. There were some mechanical things and split sentences and whatnot that really got in the way. I try to avoid criticizing a lack of proofreading, because usually it seems like a cheap thing to do, but in this case, it was pretty noticeable. It's not so much that there are typos as that the writing needed a second set of eyes.
The worst part is that the book basically just rehashes the plot of Wool, so all those extra bits and variations aren't much. The characters are...well...they're very cliched. The chunks of naked exposition lining the highway of the story also stand out too nakedly. Also, an abortion storyline that felt kind of outta place crops up. It's handled...well, the male character basically makes the decision about the abortion for the female character, and...yeahhhh. I was going to give this a higher rating, but the thinly disguised pro-life preaching was too much.

However, it's a solid concept and I can see why a lot of people liked it. I couldn't get past the writing, but if you're up for an unintentional parody, this is pure gold.

The Diver Silo Submerged Book 2 eBook WJ Davies Reviews

As soon as I finished reading part one of this story, The Runner, I was very excited to learn that there was already a follow up as well as a third and final entry planned. I immediately purchased The Diver and began reading it as soon as I finished The Runner. While the story itself was interesting, the writing wasn't at the same level as the first entry in the trilogy.

For reasons that are clear if you've read The Runner, The Diver follows a different cast of characters, although many of them had been seen briefly in the previous book. The story follows three or so different groups as they deal with the ramifications from book one, but the characters feel a lot more underdeveloped than Ace did, the main character from The Runner. They're very stock and their dialogue is full of unadorned or forcefully adorned exposition. The narrative writing also didn't seem as strong as the last go around. I think maybe it was too closely modeled after the structure used in Wool rather than being allowed to develop into its own work.

This silo saga is compelling enough that I'll still pick up The Watcher when it's released, and I hope it gets back to form, but The Diver felt a bit rushed and might have been better served by a couple more rounds of edits. I still highly recommend The Runner, but The Diver less so.
Ever since reading "Wool", I have been addicted to the "Silo" series. I certainly haven't read them all, but the ones I have read are well-written and very believable. "The Diver" is, in my opinion, one of the better stories. It has love, corruption, politics - everything that is going on in the world above ground now goes on in "The Diver". This whole entire set of stories could easily become a never-ending TV series over many seasons. "The Diver" made me want to seek out more of the stories. I've downloaded several, and will continue to "walk" through the maze of silo civilizations for months to come. I want to personally thank all of the authors for their great "Silo" stories!

I am totally enamored with the Silo stories and was very sad to see it end with Dust. After all, Hugh Howey could have taken the story to so many levels. I am pleased that he allowed fans to build upon his story. WJ Davies does an excellent job of providing fresh characters and story-line while maintaining the truisms of the original works. I found myself reading well into the night to finish all three because I simply could not put them down. This spin on the Silo Series is something you don't want to miss. If you are a fan of Hugh Howey's Silo Series, I highly recommend this fan fiction collection to you. You won't be sorry you read it.
I read the first book in this series and was totally enthused. Went back and immediately purchased books 2 and three but to my huge disappointment I fwas sure there had been a mistake and I had reloaded the first book a second time. Here I was hoping to find out what happened as the immigrants left silo 35 and merged into silo 36....instead it seemed a verbatim repeat of the first book. To my further chgrin the third book was the same thing again. Have I gone brain dead? I've read a few reviews about the second book being a side story taking place at the same time as the Runner but supposedly "fleshing out" some of the secondary characters in the first book. That is not what I found. Granted I would have been disappointed not to have a saga continue but seriously chapter after chapter was identical. Major disappointment.
